Top Issues with ReStart

  1. Self-Funding Requirement Removal: The requirement for self-funding was removed from the BOCC RFP process. reStart won the RFP because the other three candidates were disqualified for being “non-responsive.” The process is described as flawed and potentially illegal.

  2. Misleading Information to Lenexa Planning Commission: reStart allegedly misled the Lenexa Planning Commission by claiming they were providing $3.7 million in renovation funds for property upgrades, which are actually taxpayer funds, not funds from reStart.

  3. Inconsistent Funding and Reliance on Donations: reStart lacks consistent funding and depends on donations. There are concerns about what happens if they cannot cover their expenses, including who would be responsible for deficits.

  4. Poor Judgment and History: The document suggests reading articles on reStart’s website, mentioning a checkered history and poor judgment in selecting board members.

The public hearing on the special use permit was held at the Planning Commission meeting, on August 26 @ Lenexa City Hall.

The Lenexa City Staff and the Lenexa City Planning Commission voted 9 – 0 to DENY the SUP (Special Use Permit) which now takes the vote to the Lenexa City Council on September 17th, 2024
